Bull City Discovery Society (formerly Bull City Freebie Society) was created in the Fall of 2024 to bring people together through the simple joy of trying something risk-free while supporting the local businesses that make Durham special. We believe that when businesses thrive, communities thrive. Our mission is to help small businesses gain exposure, attract new customers, and build long-term loyalty—all while giving people a reason to explore and enjoy their city in a new way.

Here’s how it works: Each month, we partner with a local business and fund a tab to cover purchases for a limited time. Subscribers receive an exclusive announcement about when and where the discovery drop will happen. On that day, anyone who shows up can claim something risk-free, no strings attached. No hidden fees, and no fine print—just a simple opportunity to enjoy something new and experience what local businesses have to offer.

For businesses, this is more than just a giveaway—it’s an opportunity to introduce themselves to potential customers who may have never walked through their doors otherwise. By creating a buzz around the discovery drop, businesses gain valuable exposure and foot traffic, often leading to repeat customers and word-of-mouth marketing. While we initially funded the drops ourselves, as we’ve grown, businesses and sponsors have contributed to help expand the number and variety of discovery drops. This ensures that we can continue to offer high-quality experiences while keeping everything fair, transparent, and community-driven.
